CHAMBRE NOIRE
Artistic direction
Cedric Delorme-Bouchard
A prolific set and lighting designer, Cédric Delorme-Bouchard has designed over 300 theatre, dance and opera designs, presented in some thirty countries. A key artist on Montreal stages, he quickly imposed his aesthetic signature by combining his work with space and light to create unique and radical scenographies. Having won many awards for his designs, he represented Quebec at the prestigious Prague Quadrennial of Scenography in 2019. In addition to his practice, he is a professor in the theatre department at Lionel-Groulx college and at the National Theatre School of Canada. In 2017, he founded CHAMBRE NOIRE to embark on a directing process in which light, space and music are central to the creative process.
CHAMBRE NOIRE explores a vast repertoire of contemporary theatre, adaptations of literary works, dance and music. What unites the creations in our repertoire is the interest in developing unique stage writings through an approach centered on scenography, light and the body, placing visual and sound language at the center of the creative process. Each new creation is conceived through a lengthy research process to give designer artists time and means to push the limits of their practice by creating new technologies, techniques, materials and devices.
“Scenographer Cédric Delorme-Bouchard is a sure value in Montreal’s cultural ecosystem, an extraordinarily prolific artist – in theatre as in dance.” - Nathalie de Han, La Scena Musicale
